Over the past few days I've had the opportunity to sit down and think. Think about life and its meanings. Often times we take many things for granted. We know when we do, but sometimes we don't. Yet, we need to know not to do it -- because Karma is a bitch and she will show up on your door at any time of day, and it's a very scary thing to deal with.
As I sat down and thought of the many things that have happened in life, I realize there are a few things I've taken for granted. Below are a few I wanted to express to you that way you know what not to take for granted, because eventually it will eat you up -- and life will get difficult to live.
1.) When your parents tell you "enjoy childhood" do. I can't stress this point enough. I remember many instances in my childhood where I would say, "oh, I can't wait to grow up and live by myself." But now that I'm doing that, I've learned that it's not all cooked up to what we think. When you live by yourself, you get stuck with bills (car, insurance, rent, medical, etc.) and it gets stressful. Especially when you finally realize how much your parents did for you. If I can change one thing right now, it would be to back into childhood and live as if those days were coming to an end -- because they eventually do and, if you are like me, you will want to go back -- even if you thought it was horrible. I know I've always wanted to be mom and dads little boy forever, but I realize now that I cannot do that. Part of spreading our wings is taking in the realization that we are not children anymore and we must be more independent thank what we were when we lived with our parents. This does not mean, however, that we still cannot love our parents. We will always be their children and they will always be here when we need them. Without a doubt. So take these words for what they're worth and next time you see your brothers, your sisters, mom and dad, take the time to tell them that you love them. Because life will throw curve-balls and you may not see them tomorrow...
2.) When you have someone in your life that is special, make sure that you tell them you love them too. Though there may be rough times on the road and a few bumps where and there, assure your soul-mate that you're there helping them and giving them your love. A long distance relationship is, I must admit, a very difficult thing to have. However, when you put your trust in someone you love, you know that things will work out. You may have big plans in store, but having the mutual bond and trusting love is the thing that comes first. Without the trust, relationships won't work. Whether you live across the mountain from each other, or all the way across the nation -- it can work out with that five letter word: t - r - u - s - t.
3.) Often times you meet someone in your life that you will have disagreements with. You may butt heads quite often, not agree with each other, not like one another every so often, but you must realize that they are human to and even though you may not agree with them, does not give you the right to react in an inappropriate manner. You may not be the best of friends, but you accept help when they offer... such as helping with some school work to get you that first place prize. When you take something like this for granted, you will learn that life works with Karma to throw hard balls at ya. Things happen and after you get to thinking about your past with that person, you begin to feel bad and know that it will be difficult to overcome, especially when Karma does harm to this person. One thing is for sure, though. Deep inside, even though you had your petty little arguments, your silly fights, and frustration with one another, you're always wanting to call him or her your friend. He or she taught you something valuable in school that you use for life, and because of that, your heart will have been touched by that person (friend or not).
These are the three main things I've been thinking of over the past few days. Maybe I'm wrong, but these are my perspectives on things that have been happening in my life lately. In conclusion, never take for granted your family, your special someone, or that person that gave you a life's lesson in school. Karma knows her cue -- and you're not gonna like it. It will eat you up inside, Karma gets to your soul.

National PKU Alliance Wins $50,000 Research Grant
The news came in by an email from a PKU advocate who has been monitoring this event closely.
"We may be a rare disease, but this project testifies to the awesome power of all of us working together for a common goal and what we can achieve," Amanda stated.
PKU is a rare metabolic disease where a person is missing an enzyme called Phenylalanine Hydroxylase and unable to break down an amino acid called Phenylalanine. Because patients are missing this enzyme, they are restricted to the amount of protein they can have. Without a lifetime commitment to a low-protein diet, a PKU'er risks detrimental adverse affects such as mental retardation and neurological diseases.
"Our dream is a cure for PKU. And while that is our ultimate goal, during this Pepsi Refresh Project, it has truly been about the climb. And on this climb we have made a lot of friends, had a lot of help, and voted a lot of times," Amanda said.
"Fund Research and Find A Cure for PKU" will provide funds for research in effort to find a cure for PKU, and improve the quality of life for all children and adults living with PKU. The grant will go to The National PKU Alliance (NPKUA), a non-profit organization. NPKUA is devoted to advance research in an effort to find a treatment or hopefully a cure. It supports local PKU organizations, educates others on the issues PKU patients and families face, and advocates for individuals living with PKU.
Congratulations to the National PKU Alliance for your recent achievement!

Obama Calls for End to Republican Blockade
After recent discussions with his financial team, President Obama calls for an end to the Republican Blockade of the small business lending bill.
"We have to do more," Obama said. "Holding this bill hostage is directly detrimental to our economic growth. I ask Senate Republicans to drop the blockade."
This bill as said, would do good for small business America, however, the truth that lies behind the small business lending bill is detrimental to America and it's families.
This bill will raise taxes on businesses and the people of America. The administrations policies simply aren't working. In fact, much of what President Obama has promised, he has turned around and done the complete opposite; sending America into a continuous downward spiral that will take decades to repair, if ever.
Despite what you think, despite what we all think, one thing is agreeable. America is in need of a new president, a new administration, and a new congress. 2010 IS the year for elections. We cannot have another four years of this drastic dictatorship. Yes, I said dictatorship --
I want our freedoms back. I want America back. I want our government to do what it's purpose is: to defend citizens in times of need - not take our rights away. I want our government to govern least, and let the people govern themselves.
I want America back!

Wyoming's 40th Annual Trauma Conference
This year, for the second time, I had the distinct pleasure to represent the Powell Valley Healthcare at Wyoming's Annual Trauma Conference. Together, five of us from PVHC represented the hospital and health care center of Powell. During this time, we went to different classes gaining more experience to bring to our place of work -- and to practice the skills we learned. I took my EMT re-certification test and proud to say that I am an EMT for another two years! After trauma conference, I took some time to reflect on my job and to write down why we do it... Below is a poem called, "An EMT's Mirror."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I stare into the mirror this very morn, I begin to see what I am and where my soul will go.
Gazing into my own eyes, I stare at the past and gain perspective, The sight I see hits my heart like an arrow hits it’s target.
I wake up at dawns early light every day and begin the day anew, A prayer to God I simply do.
Gazing deeper into the mirror, deeper into my heart, I see images pass by – one by one.
A hurting soul of a Child who has lost her sibling in an asthma attack, Or that mom and dad losing their daughter in a wreck.
Those families and public officers who bravely lost their Lives that day doing their job and helping others.
My sight crawls in deeper seeing no one but myself, Kneeling to my knees, hugging that little boy scared To death his momma won’t come back.
Assuring him Momma is okay, I look to God to comfort his soul.
Seeing, deeper now, into the mirror, I can see the Thank-you cards received for helping someone’s parents.
The flowers of spring fill the room. All for thanks of My crew and I for helping those who need it most.
As my focus returns to my image in the mirror, I see the True beauty of what we do.
I am here to help and assist. I am here to comfort and give quality care. I am here to help ease the soul.
I am here because I’ve been chosen by God to help.
I am an EMT by God’s wonderful grace.
